After 18 years working at the same hospital Sally Cameron took a leap of faith moving to Sydney to take up a high-powered role.  When Ms Cameron was offered the position of CEO and Director of Clinical Services at Strathfield Private Hospital in Western Sydney, she decided it was time to move outside of her comfort zone.

“It was a risk to move to Sydney from Melbourne after being in the one place for so long,” she said. “Sometimes you have to really push yourself to give up the security of what is safe and what you know for the unknown, but I can honestly say it was the best step I have ever taken.”  Ms Cameron, who started her working career as a registered nurse, now sits in a position few other women hold, CEO of a major private hospital.  And just like during her nursing years every day brings a different challenge.  Whether it is recruiting new medical staff, overseeing multi-million-dollar budgets or assessing clinical needs, few days are the same.  It is not common for a hospital CEO to also hold the role of Director of Clinical Services, but this aspect of the role allows Ms Cameron to still enjoy that daily connection with patients.

“Being Director of Clinical Services as well means I am across pretty much every aspect of what is happening in the hospital and I love to still walk the floors when possible and speak to our patients who entrust us with their care and safety,” she said.  “I’m looking forward to the future challenges here. In conjunction with our medical specialists I want to continue to expand the hospital and its services.  I am particularly proud of the team we have at Strathfield Private Hospital. Many of our dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff have been here for decades and are exceptionally skilled in their relevant field of expertise. I know that our patients are receiving really good care. I know that because we have really good results and our patients often write to me to share their appreciation of the care they received during their stay.”
