Brisbane singer-songwriter Clea has been celebrated in Fortitude Valley with the unveiling of her 2019 Queensland Music Awards (QMAs) Song of the Year plaque for her single Dreaming. Dreaming took home Song of the Year as well as the Pop Award at this year’s star-studded QMAs, produced by QMusic, and held in March at the Royal International Convention Centre at Brisbane Showgrounds. Clea also won a $20,000 promotional prize from Nova 106.9FM and The Music.
“Clea is such an incredible talent and has made a big impression on the Australian music scene,” said QMusic CEO Angela Samut. “Dreaming was one of triple j’s most played track for a number of weeks upon its release as Clea’s songwriting, melody and voice captivates listeners and pulls in a loyal fan base which she continues to garner through her touring schedule. We are super proud of Clea and congratulate her on this exciting career milestone.”
Dreaming is from Clea’s debut indie-pop album Vermillion, released at the end of 2018. Clea recorded Vermillion with her partner, musician/producer Alistair Richardson in a recording studio they built together. “Winning QMA Song of the Year is an amazing slice of recognition,” said Clea. “It has been an incredible push to work harder and continue to create what I love doing the most.” Clea now joins other Queensland acts who have earned their place on the Brunswick Street Mall through the QMusic QMAs Song of the Year Award including Amy Shark, Violent Soho, Ball Park Music, Cub Sport and Emma Louise.
The plaque unveiling on the coveted pavement of the Brunswick Street Mall is part of the official celebrations of the grand opening of The Fortitude Music Hall. The Fortitude Music Hall is located in the heart of Brisbane’s entertainment precinct on Fortitude Valley’s Brunswick Street Mall and will be part of September’s BIGSOUND festival with artist showcases and the official BIGSOUND afterparty.
