Designer Alison Cotton the founder and creative director of First Base activewear label has created Australia’s first eco-conscious sports-luxe interior apparel for cars.

Hand-sewed in her Paddington, Sydney studio using entirely pre-loved and recycled textiles and garments, all sourced locally around Australia, it tastefully shows how sustainability can be worn in style. Alison says sustainability became an essential part of what her brand values about five years ago when she was informed of the negative impact the fashion industry has on the global environment.

Alison now lives a more eco-friendly life that involves using a keep cup and taking bags when shopping. The Australian designer says the interior for the car is inspired from a crossroad of an urban and eco minimalistic look. Their signature branding was blended with 2020’s summer trend, and colour palettes forecast of desert-inspired tones, saffron, terracotta shades and a shot of blood orange to punctuate the trims.

“We have modified and recreated the ways in which we design, produce and deliver our gear to lessen our environmental impact. We use three pillars as our guideline to design and create under: recycle, repurpose and restyle. We’ve applied this same ethos to the Yaris interior,” she said.

Recycled nylon is the core fabrication to reimagine the seats, floor mats and trims which have been printed with Alison’s signature branding. The seat covers are made with repurposed pre-loved garments to create a patchwork style effect. The ethos of laid back cool has been implemented into the cars interior design and was blended with the style of heritage sporting cars.

“There will be a constant movement towards sustainability in fashion, whether that’s in the fabrication utilised or the methods to actually create the garments. The momentum and awareness has been building over the last ten years, and I think we are entering a really exciting time in terms of innovation,” Alison said.
