At 19 years old, Angela Hughes is the youngest evokeAG Future Young Leader of 2020. Hughes wants to be able to connect hospitality and agricultural industries so that together, they can better satisfy customer demands.

The Mittagong local is currently studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management at Charles Sturt University while working on her family’s beef property and juggling two part-time jobs. When Hughes graduates, she would like to continue breeding Poll Herefords on her family’s property. She would also like to complete a high school teaching degree, so she can educate the Future Young Leaders of her agricultural sector as they face challenging but exciting times.

“I want to educate people about the importance and need for agriculture as well as the dynamics of the sector. By doing this, people may have renewed perceptions and a better understanding about the industry. It is so important that people understand that agriculture has an impact on everyone,” Hughes said. In terms of hospitality and agricultural industries, Hughes believes it is vial for the two industries to be able to work together with the common goal of satisfying the consumer needs and wants.

Hughes sees the agricultural industry as a viable sector to be a part of. “It’s an industry to be excited about as times are constantly changing and this demands innovation. Education is a crucial aspect into nurturing innovation, hence my passion in this area,” Hughes said. Hughes considers herself “a massive opportunist when it comes to agriculture” and thinks the event is an amazing platform for young people such as herself to express their own passion and ideas for the agricultural industry.

Hughes is looking forward to working with other Future Young Leaders with the ability to share their own passions and ideas about the agricultural and food tech industries. “This event is an incredible opportunity for me as a university student because it isn’t just my peers and younger members of the public attending the event, it’s an international audience, which includes investors, government representatives and representatives from a range of industries and businesses,” Hughes said.
