Gold Coast hairdresser Hayley Kidson is busy building a hair empire with her successful Minogue Hairdressing salons. With two established salons at Reedy Creek and Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast, she is a hairdressing veteran with almost two decades of experience in the industry.

Kidson’s commitment to hairdressing has led her to achieve a number of accolades and industry recognised titles, including becoming a Wella Master Colour Artist.

Her career highlights include working as a stylist at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Australia and as an assistant stylist at New York Fashion Week.

Kidson says her success as a hairdresser and small-time business owner stems from her dedication to further education and training within the industry.

“When I was an apprentice no one paid for my training,” said Hayley. “I was given plenty of opportunities and if I wanted to go to training events I had to pay for them out of my apprentice wage, which wasn’t much at the time. It was up to me to make sure I was keeping up with the industry and creating opportunities for myself.”

Kidson still invests in training to improve her skills after 17 years in the industry.

“I do as many courses as possible because I love learning new things. I feel that even if I learn just one new thing from a course, it is something new that I didn’t know before and I can apply this knowledge to my business or teach my staff.”

Her dedication to learning has also been ingrained into her staff members at the Minogue Hairdressing salons, who receive additional ongoing training from Ms Kidson.

In addition to continuing her development as a hairdresser, Ms Kidson will attend an exclusive invite-only training session with the global Sebastian team in Los Angeles.
