With 20 years experience in the legal profession, April Arslan decided to disrupt the traditional way that those in the legal profession connect.

“As I was tirelessly working to meet my clients’ needs amongst running a very busy practice, I literally had what is called a light bulb moment where I said surely there must be a simple and easier digital solution to this long-established chasing game. That’s when the initial Law-Whiz concept was born. I realised that I had literally been the informal Law-Whiz platform for others, connecting solicitors with barristers.”

April opened the doors to her own practice, ARSLAN Lawyers in 2012 and as her portfolio of clients grew globally with international referrals, April realised just how valuable the connections she had made throughout her career were. She became the connection between barristers and other solicitors and professionals, who would turn to her to seek her opinion on which counsel to use for certain cases.

“This idea meant Law-Whiz could literally save practitioners valuable resources, time and money, which was my main concern, and on the other side remove the fear and difficulties faced by barristers in marketing. All benefits would flow ultimately back through to the client. It was a win-win situation for everyone.” April worked with developers for four years, and in 2018, Law-Whiz was launched into the market. The launch saw the platform available in all common law-based countries at the same time.

April said the reception was very welcoming and positive. “Australia, New Zealand, and UK were our first stage priorities in the roll out of the platform, but as we now also have members joining from South Africa and Canada we will be extending the roll out to those remaining jurisdictions sooner rather than later.” April stresses, “Law-Whiz, is not designed to be for litigation per se; granted I am a litigator , but I did not have that in mind, in fact the platform, when I designed it, was applicable across all disciplines in law and in other industries, so someone seeking specialised tax advice, property law advice, consumer law advice, or advice generally that does not require any court attendances, may nonetheless require the specialty of an expert to speak to those issues sought.” Law-Whiz connects all corporate professionals with members of the bar (subject to the Bar Rules) to bridge the gap between these professionals with members of the Bar directly which suits both sides.
