Young Perth Based Author Samantha Willis has made the courageous decision to release novels that would not only offer a means for others looking for an escape but also to bring awareness to conditions like epilepsy.

For her whole life, Samantha has found joy and inclusivity within the fantasy worlds she found hidden in books, and now she has provided one of her very own for others also looking for a similar escape. She has just launched her book, Karaneshia, a novel about a Princess born into a World of myths and legends. It is a love story set in a medieval time and among royalty of the sea.

“Princess Karaneshia is the mythical child and the series follows her captivating journey into the mystical world many centuries ago,” Ms Willis said. “As the story is set in medieval times, it was really important to me that I had details about life back then, so I had to research it all extensively and I really enjoyed that.”

Although Samantha found that while the way people live and work is different now, the story’s main themes of courage, shame, love and finding purpose is still relevant in today’s world. Having had quite a traumatic childhood, one thing Ms Willis always enjoyed was losing herself in books, and also writing short stories of her own.

“I was embarrassed and hurt when I was turned away from multiple local schools in Geraldton, where I grew up, due to their lack of understanding and awareness of epilepsy, a condition I have always lived with. I ended up having to uproot my life and move miles away to Perth, just to participate in high school,” she said.
