Stephanie Lake is a multi-award-winning choreographer, dancer, and director of Stephanie Lake Company. The company was established in 2014 to create and tour contemporary dance works. Known for a gutsy, original choreographic style and striking visual aesthetic strives to create performances that are affecting and relevant.

Lake has danced with some of Australia’s leading choreographers and companies for nearly 20 years, working extensively with Chunky Move founder Gideon Obarzanek and Lucy Guerin Inc as well as with Anouk Van Djik, Antony Hamilton, Byron Perry, and Phillip Adams’ Balletlab. Her acclaimed works including COLOSSUS, Pile of Bones, DUAL, Aorta, and Double-Blind tour nationally and internationally and have been presented by Theatre Chaillot Paris, Concertgebouw Belgium, Dublin Dance Festival, Aarhus Festival (Denmark), Hong Kong International Festival, Tramway Glasgow and Sydney Opera House among many others. Lake has most recently collaborated with Expressions Dance Company to produce Matrix, the result of a five-week creative development in China.

Her choreographic commissions include New Zealand Dance Company, Sydney Dance Company, Chunky Move, Queensland Ballet, Frontier Danceland (Singapore), Tasdance, Expressions, and Dancenorth. She is the current recipient of the Australia Council Fellowship for Dance and previously the prestigious Sidney Myer Fellowship and Peggy Van Praagh Choreographic Fellowship. She has won multiple awards for Outstanding Choreography including Helpmann, Green Room, and two Australian Dance Awards. She collaborates across theatre, film and visual art and has directed several large-scale works for over 1000 participants.
