The Awesome Women in Construction group, or AWIC , is a not for profit association, providing a supportive community for women working in the construction industry. Assisting with providing personal and professional development and confidence building opportunities, it strives to build the brands of the organisations these women represent.

Amanda Bulow (AWIC Founder & Chairperson) recently attended Ipswich Girls Grammar and spoke to the young women who board on campus about careers the Construction Industry can offer. Earlier this year, AWIC completed its strategic plan and established one of the key strategic objectives, to deliver a measured increase of young ladies entering into career pathways in the construction industry, both at trade and professional levels by 2021. AWIC have reached out to Apprenticeships QLD and TAFE QLD to provide the necessary direction and resources for these students and their families.

At the event and in the following days, a number of the students reached out to AWIC asking for more information about electrical apprenticeships, carpentry apprenticeships and being an architect. This was a great outcome for the first time in attending and speaking to school students. AWIC is about supporting, nurturing and providing women in the construction industry an environment to network and support like minded colleagues. It provides a variety of networking opportunities for everyone to get involved. Its members represent small independent businesses right through to global organisations and it works for multi-national corporations and state-based building companies. Its vision is to have women leading, driving and supporting the growth of the construction industry.
