One of Australia’s leading ladies of stage and screen Queenie van de Zandt will return to the Brisbane Comedy Festival in March with a brand new show that is set to raise eyebrows.

Since unleashing alter-ego Jan van de Stool at the Brisbane Cabaret Festival in 2004, Queenie’s Dutch-born “musical therapist” has gained a reputation as a cult comedy act in Australia. Touring nationally as part of festivals and reaching the semi-finals on Australia’s Got Talent. Next month, one of Australia’s favourite self appointed self-help gurus will aim to conjure the laughs in a one-woman exposé: Jan van de Stool in Parting the Red Curtains.

Jane van de Stool wants all of Brisbane to see the show. “I’m inviting all of Brisbane to come inside my fabulous celebrity world and journey back to my Netherlands to see where this legend began,” van de Stool said. Whilst Brisbane can expect the Van de Stool performance they are familiar with in Parting the Red Curtains they can also be on the look out for a new skillset that’s been added to the show.”

Van de Stool explains, “I’m not one to rest on my wattles in the business of show, so I’ve added another pussy to my bow. I’m now a psychic medium. In fact, in psychic circles I’m what’s called a ‘medium rare’ – I’m that good.” Or so she says. Things go horribly wrong when she mistakenly channels her own disgruntled (and dead) ex-student and the real story of her life unfolds.

Jan van de Stool in Parting the Red Curtains is presented by Neil Gooding Productions and Amazon Woman Enterprises. Audiences can watch Jan’s life unravel during Brisbane Comedy Festival at Brisbane City Hall from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 March. Tickets and further information can be found on the Brisbane Comedy Festival.
