The Australian Women in Music Awards are set to be a star-studded occasion with a stellar list of finalists just announced.

The ceremony, which will take place in Brisbane includes three new categories this year for Excellence in Classical Music, Music Journalism, and Image Making.  The addition of these three categories means the celebration will extend to Producers, Engineers, Film Makers, Photographers, Song Writers, Industry Leaders, Artist Managers and many more women who exceed with creativity and tenacity throughout the industry.

With 15 AWMA’s up for grabs this year, the finalists for this year’s event include women such as MOJO, Thelma Plum, Christine Anu, and Alice Skye, competing across a multitude of different categories. This opportunity to celebrate the enormous talent of women in the music industry creates a space for women to come together, and connect, learn and empower each other.

In addition to the awards night, the AWMA’s will be running a two-day program at the Brisbane Powerhouse that will showcase a number of thought-provoking forums and panel discussions, as well as a key-note address by noted broadcaster, musician, writer, teacher, and philanthropist Eddie Ayres.

This important awards ceremony not only acknowledges and celebrates outstanding women, but the event is a vibrant addition to the Queensland art scene, with the honorable Di Farmer, Minister for Child Safety, Youth and Women and Minister for the prevention of Family and Domestic Violence describing the event as “another great opportunity to showcase the tremendous creativity and depth of talent of our many female artists.”

In addition to the awards ceremony, the night will also include a concert and party, bringing together a dazzling mix of music genres, and performances by some of Australia’s biggest names and most inspiring artists such as Katie Noonan, Clare Bowditch, and Cheryl Barker.
