Melbourne businesswoman Julia Steel was named the winner of a Gold Stevie® Award in the COVID-19 Delivery Hero of the Year category at the 18th Annual International Business Awards® on 19 August.
The International Business Awards are the world’s premier business awards program. All individuals and organisations worldwide – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small – are eligible to submit nominations. The 2021 IBAs received entries from organisations in 63 nations and territories. More than 3700 nominations from organisations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration in a wide range of categories.
Julia’s award recognizes a big, hairy and audacious idea she had to pivot her business at the start of the pandemic to connect the world’s most forward-thinking experts with people at home through COVID-19.
From her simple idea, 15,000 people from 32 countries joined her and 172 other speakers at what became VID19. Think Leadership Live-Aid, the mission of every session was to provide people with the skills and knowledge to navigate the unprecedented time. Julia hosted the entire event live from her lounge room in Melbourne’s Fitzroy North. The event was watched by people worldwide and VID19 was also announced as winner of the Silver Stevie® Award for Best Educational Event.
In announcing both awards, Judges commented that, “The world needs more Julia’s. Congratulations on tackling something that has had such an impact on people at a time of need,” and “VID19 touched and supported thousands of people through hard times. It’s absolutely deserved of this award.”
When Julia heard the news, she did not expect VID19 will receive so many responses and she believed every business owner deserves the award.
