Sarah Quinn is the designer and founder of Bluebird Co., a unique and personalised jewellery label for women, girls, boys and baby. Now a mother of three to Hosea Courage (8), Pearl Joy (6), and Ari Honour (1), she started her business during maternity leave with her second child, Pearl. Quinn was unable to find hard wearing, solid, sterling silver jewellery pieces for her daughter that were personal, stylish and functional. Inspired by nostalgic memories of the traditional Bluebird keepsake pieces that were around when she was a child, she started designing and making jewellery for herself, family and friends children.

After receiving more and more requests, she decided to embark on a new journey of jewellery making. Now working from her home studio in Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, Quinn has a team, stockists and successful e-commerce store. Quinn’s collections are inspired by classic and timeless styles that can be worn daily.  The most recent Pearl pieces were naturally inspired by her daughter, Pearl. A particular favourite of Quinn’s is the simple baroque pearl pendant that can be worn on its own or with a personalised pendant alongside it.

For Quinn, running a business with three kids means every day looks different. Quinn tries to begin the day with a run or swim, followed by school drop off and play with her 18 month old son. When he sleeps, she makes jewellery and sends out orders and before heading back to school for pick up. Her business is supported by an amazing team in the studio throughout the week helping to make jewellery.

Quinn’s favourite part is the creative element to her job. “Having been a teacher, I love to be around people and work as part of a team, but as a bit of an introvert I also love the days where I can go for hours in my own creative space. I love seeing my designs come to life and hearing from our customers.  We hear some beautiful feedback about the sentimental value that our pieces have for their wearers and that is so rewarding for me. I also love that we are able to give back! We support a not-for-profit organisation doing incredible work in Ndola, Zambia. This year, they constructed an adult education facility to help facilitate adults in the community.” Quinn has big plans for Bluebird Co. in 2020, with new designs being released, partnering with artisans in India with a focus on sustainable and ethical manufacturing and exciting collaborations.
