With her flaming red hair and edgy style, Maja Savnik is unlike any other classical musician.

Savnik is a world class violinist and musician in the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Like most Australian Chamber Orchestra musicians, classical music has been part of her Savnik’s life since a very young age. But unlike other classical musicians, Savnik performs music from a range of different genres.

In June, she will perform music by artists from Radiohead, The National and Sufjan Stevens, as part of the Australian Chamber Orchestra tour, Indies and Idols. The following month, Savnik and the Australian Chamber Orchestra will tour Luminiousperforming music in collaboration with iconic photographer, Bill Henson, in a season of haunting music set to his luminous photographs.

The violinists musical path began in Slovenia as a child where she was a member of Domžale Music School. Savnik’s passion continued into her teens, where she attended the High School for Music and Ballet Ljubljana. Here, she was awarded several national and international first prizes at various competitions, including San Bartolomeo, Stresa, Gorizia, Belgrade, Zagreb and Usti and Orlici.

Savnik continued her studies at the Academy of Music in Slovenia. She has toured with several world renowned artists including Sting on his Symphonicities tour, Russian opera singer, Anna Netrebko on her European tour in 2012 and world renowned Cellist, Mischa Majsky in 2013.
