In front of a sold out audience of more than 200 guests and dignitaries, taking out the prestigious inaugural honour Central Queensland Woman in Business of the Year 2019 was a dynamic leader dedicated to supporting women and rural industries as an innovator of the financial services industry. As Chief Executive Officer of Triumph Financial Planning, Philippa Walters has established herself as an innovative and visionary leader supporting businesses across Central Queensland.

Judges were impressed by Walters’ strong sense of understanding the client’s needs through bringing a fresh approach to the financial services industry. The announcement was made at the gala 2019 Awards in Gladstone on Friday 22 March, attended by a sold out event attended by more than 200 guests including councillors, Members of Parliament, civic leaders and community supporters.

Walters received the coveted Award along with five other award winners, and Awardees of Merit sharing in more than $18,000 in prizes. Kerry Gray of Capricorn Coast Football Club took home the Community Dedication Award, Dietitian Megan Leane was awarded with the Aspiring Young Business Women’s Award while, Gabrielle Fitzgerald of Emmaus College recieved the Empowering Young Women’s Award.

The Rising Star award was given to Jade Jones of Halo Hair Studio Gladstone and  Michelle Comley of Budget Rent a Car Gladstone received the Regional Industry Award. “We have been overwhelmed by the level of female leaders across the region and with over 80 nominations, it has been an incredible launch into the region,” she said.

Queensland Women in Business Awards Executive Director Karen Phillips said the Awards program was launched into the region as part of the Queensland Women in Business initiative and has praised Walters as the first Central Queensland Woman in Business of the Year recipient. “Judges were highly impressed with her leadership style and ability to maximise her business’s success in the highly crowded financial sector,” Phillips said. “Our Central Queensland winner has shown remarkable ability to cultivate a strong team, harnesses new opportunities and give back to her community.”
