Jodi Napoli of Cheeky Patch has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 AusMumpreneur Awards in the Product Design category. The AusMumpreneurAwards presented by AusMumpreneur and The Women’s Business School celebrate and recognize Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, and digital innovation.
The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family. Jodi, a mum of two young kids, came up with the idea for a compact picnic mat while on maternity leave to avoid getting her work clothes dirty during lunchtime. When Jodi fell pregnant with her second child and subsequently did return to work it turned out Cheeky Patch was a great hit to pack instead of a traditional sized picnic mat.
Deep down, Cheeky Patch promotes wellbeing, by encouraging people of all ages to take a break outdoors which is shown to improve both physical & mental health. “Being selected as a finalist means so much to me because it recognises the innovation and development that I have put into my product and gives me hope that I can turn my side-hustle into a thriving business, which I can balance with raising a family,” Napoli said.
Cheeky Patch has overcome challenges but has also seen great success, it is the first local creative in her area to be selected by the Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise as a product showcase at the Visitors Information Centre in the tourist mecca of Katoomba.
Napoli encourges anyone thinking about starting their own enterprise to appreciate themselves and their ideas first. “You need to be proud of your work because if you can’t speak up for yourself and what you are trying to achieve, you don’t know what opportunities you could be missing out on,” she said.
