Teresa Palmer is Michelle Payne in RIDE LIKE A GIRL, which will be released in cinemas across Australia on 26 September 2019 by Transmission Films. Starring alongside Sam Neill, Sullivan Stapleton, Magda Szubanski and Stevie Payne, Palmer represents and portrays the incredible true story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup. The film is the directorial debut from Rachel Griffiths.

Renowned Australian actor and now Director, Griffiths will take her new film on the road to Toowoomba, Townsville, Cairns, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast where regional Queensland will roll out the green turf for the highly anticipated film. Raised mainly in Melbourne, she made her debut on the Australian series Secrets before being cast as a supporting actress in Muriel’s Wedding. 

Payne, the central character whom the film revolves around, dreams of the impossible; winning the Melbourne cup – horse-racing’s toughest two-mile race. The youngest of 10 children, Payne is raised by a single father and drops-out of school to become a jockey. Met with early failures, she finds her feet, but a family tragedy, followed by her own near-fatal horse fall all but ends the dream. But with the love of her dad and her brother Stevie, Payne doesn’t gives up and rides on to meet the Prince of Penzance. Together, they overcome impossible odds for a shot at the dream: a ride in the 2015 Melbourne Cup, at odds of 100 to one. The rest is history.

The film will be screened at selected Events and BCC cinemas across regional Queensland and a Q&A session will begin after the film with director Rachel Griffiths at all, but Event Cinemas Kawana. Watch their official trailer here .
