Australian alt-pop artist San Mei has announced her new single “Love in the Dark,” produced in part by Scott Horscroft and Oscar Dawson. “Love In The Dark” is another step forward in the guitar-heavy, dreamy pop world of San Mei and the wider Australian indie scene. The single explores San Mei’s personal experience of keeping something hidden due to anxiety and fear of rejection.

“For me, this is to do with my faith,” she said. “I often struggle to have the confidence to even acknowledge my beliefs around others  (especially in the music industry) out of fear that I might look foolish, outdated or like an outsider. But I am realising that having the courage to be transparent about something that forms part of your identity is really important.”

San Mei hopes that the single will encourage others to be open about their identity and beliefs.

The past two years have been ground-breaking for San Mei’s career. She sparked interest around the world in 2018 with her breakthrough single “Wonder” and showcase at the 2018 BIGSOUND Festival. This excitement was equally shared by Jack River, Middle Kids, Gang Of Youths, K.Flay, Stella Donnelly, and K.Flay who invited San Mei to support them at shows around the country. San Mei was also chosen by triple j Unearthed to appear at Falls Festival and played nine shows at SXSW 2019. Since then, she has signed to Australian label etcetc and wrapped her debut ‘Something Good’ tour.
