Business leader and CEO of Small Business Expos (SBE) Paula Brand wants to encourage women to lead in business and embrace selling. Small Business Expos are one-day pop-up business-to-business marketplaces, focused on generating sales leads for small companies and runs in five regions across South East Queensland.

Since she founded the company six years ago, Brand has noticed how reluctant women can be to put themselves out there in sales environments. “Many seek passive ways to sell, thinking sales is a dirty word… but without sales, there is no business. The Small Business Expos gives local business a platform to get belly-to-belly to generate leads, and also provides training to help with the sales process.” Brand is finding innovative solutions to encourage more women to exhibit at the expos. For the first time, this year, we have free childcare at the Gold Coast SBE, so women could have a stand or network with other businesses. Also, over the last 12 months, SBE has built TinaX Talks, expert panel events to give women business skills, inspiration, and information.”

SBE is also launching the Start Up Hub. Borne out of a recognition of the costs of starting up a small business, Brand wants to harness ”the power in getting your product or business in front of real people in real life.” Therefore, SBE is ”offering 20 local businesses space at a discounted price to showcase their products and services – it is grassroots selling by local businesses in the community where they live and work.”
